It's such a pleasure to share memories from our precious childhood where we had something to look forward to each day.

One such thing was a postcard. I remember the time when there were no mobile phones, tablets, or any such device. The forms of communication were letters, postcards, telegrams, telegraphs, etc. Out of the above, postcards used to amaze me, the reason being that the front page would inadvertently have a picturesque background, usually of a foreign land which looked spik & span with beauty.

I used to have a few pen-friends from Europe & US and we used to exchange postcards with each other. It was like a new Netflix release!! I would rush to grab my postcard and firstly spend moments looking at the beautiful picture. Then turn it around and read the details like where it's from etc. It was indeed a beautiful moment. Similarly, I would select some pretty postcards featuring important landmarks in India and post them to my pen-friends abroad. I would check and recheck the address to which they needed to be posted.

We also used to exchange letters, which needed postage stamps, with a few cousins who lived in South India while we stayed in New Delhi. So that was again a pleasant memory as postage stamps also seemed fun.

Children today can't even imagine how one can get so excited at a random card but in those times, when nothing else used to be there, these postcards were our means of amusement and pleasure. Even today we can find few shops selling postcards.

Postcards also used to teach us young ones a bit of Geography when we had to fill the "TO" and "FROM" columns. It also has the advantage of getting to know the various places on this Earth.

I still have those postcards safely stacked away in my memory box along with other childhood memories 🙂
